Save up to £150 on your household bills and help the environment too

Low energy light bulbs last on average 12 times longer than regular light bulbs and can save up to £9 on your annual electricity bill.

Remember – turn a light off when you leave the room to save even more!

Buy products with the ‘energy saving recommended logo’ – they are the same price as normal appliances and can save you up to £45 per year on your energy bill.

‘Standby Mode’ – Leaving appliances on standby (e.g. turning off the TV via the remote not the box) wastes approximately £740 million of electricity, not to mention the 800,000 tonnes of carbon released into our atmosphere.

Leaving an appliance in standby mode overnight not only increases your electricity bill but it is also an increased fire risk and shortens the life of the appliance by years.

The average UK home has 12 appliances in standby mode per year. Most appliances use 50% or more electricity in standby mode than when they are switched on.

If a family of 4 who each have a radio, mobile phone charger, TV and electric toothbrush left them all on standby for a year they could be wasting approximately £35 of their bill per year.

Dripping & trickling taps wastes 10,000 litres of clean drinking water a week, by stopping taps from dripping, turning the taps off whilst brushing your teeth & having a ½ bath rather than a full one can save you up to 10% of the cost of your bill.

Washing clothes at 30C rather than 40C saves up to 40% energy, making your bill lower – why not use your machine when energy costs are lower to save even more.

Turning down your thermostat by 1C can cut more than 10% from the average heating bill. This can save up to £35 per year on your bill.

Timing your heating to go off 30 minutes before you leave the house and to come back on 30 minutes before you come home will save money in the long run – what point is there in heating an empty house?

  • Replacing your light bulbs with energy saving bulbs.
  • Change your appliances to ‘energy saving recommended’ ones when your old appliances need replacing.
  • Turn off all appliances when not in use – Do not use standby.
  • Stop taps from dripping.
  • Wash clothes on a full load at 30C rather than 40C
  • Turn down your thermostat & programme the timer.

Follow the easy steps above & save yourself a massive £150 or more per year.
